Hotel Andra: Sleepless in Seattle No More

Travelling to Seattle is a must for any music fan. You want to walk the same streets as Cobain and Hendrix; flourish in the music scene and pretend it’s the 90s. Yet when you put thatstereotypical persona to bed, a part of you knows staying at just any hotel on the block isn’t your style.

Central and sophisticated, Hotel Ändra is a hip boutique hotel located in Belltown.  The building dates back to the 1920s first as apartments, then as a jazz club in the 1950s and then as a Scandinavian designed hotel in 2004. ‘Andra’ in Swedish relates to change and although the eras and clientèle transformed, the original design is found within the hotel’s structure today.

Location:
Hotel Ändra is central to everything with easy access to other neighbourhoods while being nestled in its own community. Plus the hotel is across the street from Sub Pop Records, how can it get better than that? It’s an easy five-minute walk to shopping and the downtown core and within three blocks you will find yourself at Seattle’s famous Pike Market. If you’re planning a day trip to Seattle Space Needle and Experience Music Project, expect to walk 20 minutes or take a quick bus ride.  The staff at Hotel Ändra are incredibly helpful with bus routes and schedules.

The Lounge:
A spacious contemporary “living room” with high ceilings, bright lighting and brown woodaccentuates the earth tones painted on the walls. Cozy sofa seating and a table for four is available for guests to relax. When you first walk in, an appetizing aroma of Mediterranean food lingers from the hotel’s restaurant Lola, which is run by Seattle’s favourite chef Tom Douglas.

The Room:
It’s the little things that make you enjoy a hotel more than home. When we first arrived, the sun shined through the windows creating a natural, translucent vibe. The room’s air conditioning was at an appropriate level and cooled us down. Two candies were gently placed on the pillows welcoming us to our first night’s stay. And an ice bucket sat on the bedside table beside two glasses. How lovely! Everything was clean and perfect. There was a Tivoli table radio which was a fun, visually pleasing step ahead of the typical alarm clock or iPod dock. You have your own Seattle soundtrack by plugging in an iPod or tuning into KEXP.

We had a three window-view onto Seattle streets with the Space Needle in the background; Great city views for a first time visitor. The highlight of the room was, without a doubt, the beautiful and spacious washroom. Hotel Ändra put in an extra dab of effort to create a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere. With open-concept clear glass showers and heated mirrors, you never had to worry about wiping steam away. We’ll never enjoy another mirror again.

The spacious layout of the room included a comfortable, stylish sofa adjacent to a flat screen TV for taking a breather. The amenities are ideal for those working on the road, including comfortable beds with clean Egyptian cotton linen, a long work desk, and all the essentials for a temporary second home.
